Nineteen years of research and practical experience in forest plantation management and tree improvement- integrating genetics, silviculture, end-use properties and forest health in managing fast-growing tropical tree plantation species in Sabah. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD by research) on Wood Quality Evaluation and Tree Improvement Methods for Eucalyptus Pellita in Borneo at the University Sunshine Coast, Australia.
Agustan Alwi, Silviculturist
More than 15 years of experience of silviculture research in growing Acacia mangium, Falcataria moluccana and Eucalyptus pellita and its hybrids. BSc in Forest Management and currently undertaking MSc (Universiti Putra Malaysia) in developing calibration models for foliar N and P using NIR spectroscopy.
Mahadir Lapammu, Tree Breeder
More than 17 years and responsible to execute all the tree breeding programs for the current 3 main species such as Acacia mangium, Falcataria moluccana and Eucalyptus pellita (and its hybrid). Currently undertaking MSc (Universiti Putra Malaysia) in Tree Improvement Programs for the 3 main taxa in Borneo Malaysian.
Jino Albert, Research & Development Forester
Forester with a Bachelor degree in Forestry Science, majoring in International Tropical Forestry at the University of Malaysia, Sabah (UMS). Previous experience in Quality Assurance and now Research and Development in tree improvement, silviculture and plant health for Forest Solutions Malaysia (FSM).
Sulimahwati binti Supu, Research & Development Assistant Manager
More than 15 years of experience of Tissue Culture research in micropropagation of Acacia species, Falcataria moluccana and Eucalyptus species. BSc in Resource Biotechnology and currently undertaking MSc (Universiti Putra Malaysia) in optimization the in vitro micropropagation for selected clones of Eucalyptus pellita.
Phui Seng Loi, Research & Development Manager
Five years research experience in the field of Forest Genetics and Biotechnology, then followed by ten years research experience in the field of Plantation Forestry (Tree Breeding). Master in Forest Genetics, 2012, UNIMAS and Bachelor of Science (Resource Biotechnology) with Honours, 2007, UNIMAS.
Redzuan Abdul Rauf, Research Executive on Forest Health
Graduated BSc (Hons) in Forest Science (2011) at the University of Putra Malaysia. Joined Research and Development (R&D) at Sabah Softwoods Berhad in 2012 and completed a Masters’ Degree in Forest Science (plant health) in 2018 with Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), University of Pretoria, South Africa. Special focus on pathogens of tropical tree plantation species such as Ceratocystis wilt disease and Chrysoporthe canker and keeping plantations healthy.

Hamzad bin Fahmi, Research & Development Officer
More than 8 years of experience in timber plantation research, specific in silviculture research in growing Eucalyptus pellita. BSc in Forest Plantation & Agroforestry and currently undertaking MSc (Universiti Putra Malaysia) in developing calibration models for Soil Organic Carbon and Total Nitrogen content using NIR spectroscopy in E. pellita plantation in Sabah.
Matthew Ngui, Research and Development Manager
Heading the Department of Research and Development in Sapulut Forest Development Sdn. Bhd. and specialising in silviculture. Helped change operational practices to optimise the growth of Eucalyptus pellita and Neolarmarkia cadamba via information exchange between BFC members and experimental trials. Graduated from University of Melbourne with a BSc in Environmental Science.
